History of the Practice
Before becoming an attorney J. Randolph Given worked as a city planner. Early
in his career he worked with neighborhood development organizations in the
City Chicago and elsewhere in Northern Illinois. He also worked as a planner
with DuPage County, Illinois. Given began his legal career in the mid-1980's
with the Chicago law firm formerly known as Schain, Firsel, Brown & Burney,
Ltd., working on zoning and land use matters and property related litigation.
Given followed one of the firm's partners to Intercounty Title Company of
Illinois, where he handled claims and some underwriting matters. At the same
time Given handled litigation for Intercounty as a member of the captive law
firm of Brown & Domanskis, Ltd. In 1992, Given established his own solo
practice in Wheaton, Illinois. Since then the practice has been located either
in Naperville, Illinois or in Wheaton, Illinois. The practice serves the
entire metropolitan area of Chicago, and occasionally areas beyond.
Randolph Given once worked as a summer intern for the City of Euclid, Ohio,
famed as the "birthplace of zoning." The Supreme Court case of Village of
Euclid v. Ambler Realty was the case in which the U.S. Supreme Court first
upheld a local zoning ordinance.
